“Adoption runs in the family” - Nathaniel & Ezequiel’s Adoption Story
Adoption Runs in the Family
On May 6, Amanda and Justin adopted brothers Nathaniel and Ezequiel.
For Amanda, this was familiar territory. She was adopted as an infant and her two younger siblings were adopted together, as a sibling group, from foster care. Her mom was adopted too. As Amanda puts it, adoption "runs in the family"! They often joke that Justin is the odd one in the family since he's the only person who hasn't been adopted!
Learning to Be Brothers Again
Before joining Amanda and Justin's family, Nathaniel and Ezequiel lived in separate foster homes. That meant the boys had some relearning to do: how to share a home, a routine, and each other's company again.
With Amanda and Justin's support, they did. Nathaniel and Ezequiel now have a good, typical brother relationship. They get to grow up side by side, in the same home, as brothers.
Keeping Every Bond Alive
Nathaniel and Ezequiel also have another brother, and Amanda and Justin have made sure that relationship stayed strong too, with frequent visits and activities that keep all three brothers connected.
This is the difference Bridges Homeward tries to make: giving a child a lasting home, and making sure every bond that matters to them stays just as strong.
