Super Mom & Super Son: Corey and Melissa's Adoption Story

Melissa and Corey finalized Corey's adoption on Monday, June 22!

Corey moved in with Melissa last July, and she has been an incredible match for him from the start. Corey has autism, and Melissa has gone above and beyond to find the right support and resources for him, from working closely with his school to advocate on his behalf, to lining up a sailing summer camp for kids with autism that he'll attend this summer. Corey is a sweet, affectionate young man who loves reading and video games, and last summer he attended Bridges Homeward's comic book camp, which he loved so much that he went home and started making his own comics.

Over the past year, Melissa and Corey have built a full life together. They've taken trips to New York City and to Texas to visit Melissa's family, and this June, Corey finished 6th grade. On July 9, just weeks after his adoption was finalized, he turned 12.

To celebrate the adoption, Melissa and Corey had matching shirts made featuring Mario, reading "Super Mom" and "Super Son". They were surrounded by family and friends on the big day, including Corey's former foster family, who came to celebrate just how far he's come.

Melissa has been a joy to work with throughout this process, and her advocacy, patience, and love have given Corey a home where he can thrive. We are so grateful to have been part of this super family's journey!
